Part 2 this week our Hosts continue their deep dive into the dawn of sound in cinema with the 2nd Annual Academy Awards. Jeff and Cory run the unofficial nominees of 1930 including In Old Arizona, The Hollywood Revue of 1929, Alibi, and The Broadway Melody through their patented 5-finger Metric. They also talk about The Patriot which was considered in the running, but a full version of the film no longer exists so they omitted it from their metric. Overall Jeff and Cory share their newfound appreciation for the craft of early cinema while deciding the true fate of the Best Picture of 1930. Is Hollywood’s first on screen musical deserving of the Oscar? Or was there another film that stands the test of time?
